This year's 18th issue of Shueisha's Young Gangan magazine revealedon Friday that artist Kento Eida is launching a manga spinoff of Kumo Kagyu's Goblin Slayer! light novel series titled Goblin Slayer! Side Story: Year One. The manga will launch in the next issue on September 15. Kagyu is credited with the original work, and Noboru Kannatsuki and Shingo Adachi are credited with the original character design.

SB Creative published the first volume of the Goblin Slayer! dark fantasy novel series in February 2016, and the company will publish the sixth volume on September 14. Noboru Kannatsuki illustrates the novel series. The series centers on a man who desires to become an "adventurer," but insists on only killing goblins. The story begins with a female priest who has just joined a party, but quickly gets in trouble. She is saved by the man known as the "Goblin Slayer," a man who is ranked Gold (third highest) in his local guild in subduing goblins. In the story, he says, "I won't save the world, I just kill goblins." After hearing rumors about him, a female elf approaches him with a request.

Kōsuke Kurose (The IDOLM@STER Neue Green for Dearly Stars) launched a main manga adaptation in May 2016.

Yen Press has licensed both the novels and Kurose's manga adaptation. The company released the third novel in print on August 22, and released the manga's 15th chapter digitally on August 25.
