I've read all the books. I'm one of those poor suckers that got hold of this series from the very beggining (Was I still in highschool?). I Realized the author probably ran himself into a dead end (or waiting for the series to catch up, is that his excuse now?), So I haven't really payed much attention on how major it got these days. I assumed this series was for a pretty niche group but when I got word that my sister and mother were watching it I was quite surprised.

So how is this series? Does it compare with the books well? A lot of the details my sister gave made me realize I forgot a lot.
If you pretty much know what's going to happen is it still worth it? I hear it's rather bloody and blatant with it's scenes. I do recall this author had an unusual penchent for wanton crulty and some sex scenes but that was stuff in a book. Is it portrayed realistically or is it just used as dreaded "fanservice" to get people hooked on the show?

Guess what I'm really asking is how was it?

I tried watching it, but after a few episodes it just seemed like soft core Dungeons & Dragons porn. I'd much rather (and soon will since I downloaded them) give the books a try. All in all, wasn't my cup of tea.

I remember reading the first and second book in high school, and I really like a couple of the characters, but I just couldn't handle/stand the plot.
The TV series is decent... it actually has a lot more "scenes" (unnecessary) than the book did (or what I remember of it anyways.) They did change a few minor details around, however, they are really still close to the books. If you don't mind blood and gore, then perhaps you might like it. :)

I've quite recently finished watching all the episodes up till the recent one which is season 5's finale. The series was pretty interesting, there were a lot of nude scenes that did not need to be there and a lot of characters that I was cheering for ended up dying (at least Aria's alive).
My friend started reading the books after he finished the series and said there was a great number of differences e.g. Some of the characters who died in the series are still alive in the book and there's a lot more detail in the book obviously.
If you like backstabbing, alliances, family houses or politics then you'll most probably like GoT , the nude scenes have started to get annoying though.

Caught up on the show and heavily obsessed. About half way through the first novel. I really have no motivation to finish them though since GRRM's takes forever to write. He'll probably eat himself to death before the next book comes out.

    Can't wait for season 6!

who do you think deserves the Iron throne at the present moment?

Got any speculations on John snow's mother?
( technically ur answer would be based on speculation so it wouldn't be a spoiler)

next question has a huge spoiler so click only if you've finished season 5
Do you think John will be brought back to life , by that red witch ?

    ....You know nothing John Snow.......

    Well now that
    Stannis the Mannis is dead
I'm thinking Daenerys deserves it most.

And the easiest way I could base my theory on Jon Snow's mom is R+L=J. There's some YT videos that do a fantastic job illustrating that theory.

    And about the final spoiler.
Yeah I think she will. Too big of a coincidence for Melisandre to show up at Castle Black when she did. We know that it's fully within her abilities to do so. Considering that other red priest did it to that other guy about 5 or 6 times. Her fascination about Jon and now that Stannis is gone gives her the motive to do so. Jon Snow is just too riddled in mystery and speculation about him and the Azor Ahai theory for him to just be dead like that. Melisandre has probably now moved her theory of Stannis being Azor Ahai to Jon being Azor Ahai.

Honestly, I was like that at first, too. But I gave it a try and I'm not eagerly awaiting s6.

Now, I do like this series quite a bit and I would read the books, but sadly my brother has hidden them deep below his mountain of crap within his room. So if I wanna read them, my options are buy the books or rent a backhoe.

In terms of how the series is now?

According to my brother who has read the books, it seems that at some point they were taking the whole Walking Dead/Fullmetal Alchemist approach in which they're sort of making their own story now. Not to say this is a bad thing, it really isn't, but my brother's a little afraid because now not even the book-readers know what's gonna happen now.

Yeah s5 ended the way the current book ended. And GRRM is so fat and lazy that the show is going to spoil the books. Although I heard it won't go down exactly how the books will end but it will be damn close. TWD on the other hand creates new content in the show so they do not catch up with the comics.

    GAME OF THRONES ALERT

'Game of Thrones' The Mountain Actor Breaks Keg-Tossing Guinness World Record

Hafthor Bjornsson, who played "The Mountain" on Game of Thrones, broke his own Guinness World Record at a Giants Live event in Sweden last weekend.

Bjornsson threw a 33-pound keg over his head, clearing a pole that was raised at a little over 23 feet. This broke his previous Guinness World Record, when he tossed a 27 pound keg 26 feet in the air in 2014.

After Bjornsson threw the keg he walked over to the presenter and picked him up, walking around as 2500 fans cheered him on. Earlier this year, the actor and strongman broke a1,000-year-old Viking record by carrying a 1,433-pound log on his back for five steps. The actor is 6'9 and weighs 369 pounds.

"It was easy!" Bjornsson told Giants Live, "I could have broken the roof, it was amazing to do this in front of the great crowd."

Man that guy is huge he's built like a Mountain!?

Also I prefer the books over the series not that the series wasn't good but the little tweaks they did left a bad taste in my mouth the end result was the same but how they got there was different....

I cant wait however to read the hedge knight (gift I am getting for Christmas) the adventures of Dunk and Egg interests me quite a bit.....

    @Sporadic
And don't forgot he is old to but damn he writes good books :p except for feast of crows that one was mediocre and painful.

I wonder if in like 50 years he will be considered like Tolkien for lord of the rings because the dude basically created a whole new fantasy world with a pretty solid history line..... mind you its more adult directed then the hobbit and LOTR...

@Cpt_K3nny I just fear he will die before A Dream of Spring is released. Next year marks 20 years since A Game of Thrones was released and he's only 5/7 novels in. I understand the creative process for writers can take a long time but, especially for someone like GRRM who's fictional universe is so expansive, but 20 years and 5 novels? It's very unfortunate that the TV show has to end up spoiling the novels when there's so much high demand for both. The first three novels came out pretty fast. And now it's 5-6 year waits for each new book.

@Sporadic I totally agree with you that he may pass away before he's done what's more troubling is that I read that he made sure that the publisher does not have the right to have anyone else finish the series in the event that he does pass away...

Also If I remember correctly I rember saying it may be 8 books now instead of 7 something similar to feast of crows where he splits them in 2.....

I also read somewhere that he finds it harder to write now because of all the conventions he's attending that may be one reason why he's been slower at writing the books compare to the first 3....

Also it's not like he's only written the a song of ice and fire series he's also written the dunk and egg stories as well...

With all that said you are absolutely right that it is frustrating and worrisome that it's taking a long time..... Lord knows I am tired of waiting to get my got fix lol

I'm done waiting on this series, I read a lot and the the stories start to mix in my mind. There's only a few characters I followed and genuinely want to know what happens to them, Jaime, Brienne and strangely enough Sansa.

My final thoughts on the characters I remember
Jaime to me was the author's best case of character development. Early on I thought I was supposed to hate this guy but seeing things unfold from his point of view has changed my perception of him.

Brienne is the only humane person of this entire series! The void left behind from Ned Stark hasn't been filled by anyone. I thought Dany could fill it but she seems to have lost whatever innocence she had (as the story demanded to be fair)

Sansa only because I keep waiting for her to break once and for all.

Little Finger- I'm calling it now, Sansa kills him in an attempt to protect her...uh...maidenhood. Yeah...

Arya- Don't care anymore. I get it, you want revenge. Seriously does she think of anything else? Lost cause.

Jon Snow- Way to much screen time. It's like the author is trying to telegraph him as some kind of important character. Is it bad that I completely forgot what even happens to him at the last part?

Bran- I thought he would be important considering his abilities but nothing ever get's talked about

    Hodor- Hodor

Dany- Was one of my favorite characters (yeah free those slaves girl!). The last book completely ruined her imo. She sat on her conquests for an entire book doing nothing but consorting with some obvious shady guy and dealing with a random shoo in that is her new found uncle...cousin? What was his name again? Oh well not important, he died in the same book that introduced him. Way to waste my time.

The Imp- Funny comic relief guy. Of course I like him! Too bad he can't carry the story by himself

Cercie- I liked hating Joffrey more then her.

Stannis- I honestly don't understand how this guy is still alive this late in the story. For someone introduced early in the story we don't know enough about him.

Forgot his name, the Onion Knight smuggler under Stannis- The only character link under Stannis. We need more pov from this guy because the story is making a big to do with Stannis and I still don't know what to think of him.

Every Iron Island character- I hated these chapters. Not only did I think Theon betraying the Starks was one of the most random things in this book, every character here is just boring.

Cat Stark (or whatever her first name was)- Please stay dead. Why is George bringing supernatural zombies into this story anyway? I'll give you the walkers outside the walls, that I could accept but now former character are being revived like this?

    I pass

    The Jon x Dany thing-
Please no. I give credit to the people who saw this, I didn't see it myself. It relies on the author purposely leaving the identity of Jon's mother unknown. While undeniably clever I don't approve of this end game at all. They haven't even met much less know about each other. It's FAR to late in the story to shoo this in. That's just sloppy, at this point it's beginning to look like Dany is either going to end the story single, settle differences with the Jorah guy (author gave him the old disappearing magic trick), or she dies. I'm really seeing the later happening.

Thoughts on end game- Dany dies with her dragons. I'm going so far to say she starts to lose it towards the end. Jon lives, rebuilds the Black Brothers and relaxes their rules. Helps rebuild the kignless north.

Cercie dies to zombie Joffrey. Tommen inherits and he's a good boy.

Jaime dies (Not now though, he dies later). Dies heroically destroying zombie Joffrey. Admittedly I want to see this guy redeemed :)

Brienne, no idea. Maybe she dies and helps Jaime develop further. Maybe she lives on but I'm not sure

Sansa lives. Haters gonna hate but she lives on as either a Stark or a new identity.

Arya, probably lives and most likely in hiding.

Everyone on the Iron Isles- a tsunami sinks their piece of garbage islands underwater and the drowned god priest urges them all into it's depth. What? It seems likely to me.

Stannis dead from Dany's dragons. The red priestess fights fire with fire and loses.

The imp lives of course, didn't you know he wrote the ending?

Ultimately the winner of the Iron Throne is...
    No one.
Honestly I don't see how the author had an end game planned because this is the only outcome. Peace could still be achieved if all the squabbling sides agree that the need for unification is impossible anyway.

That or Dany takes over. I guess there's always that.

Strictly my opinion. I don't much care anymore. I actually think my endings could be wrote out in a good no nonsense fashion. Hey the author already broke my sense of belief, why limit yourself now? Besides Joffrey should die twice and we can all agree on that. Anyway I've moved on to other books (Anyone tried the Mistborn series? I'm liking that Brandon Sanderson author and his books...)

    @Doomguy

Well Strictly speaking about Jon Snow's parentage there is a rumor going around that he is the son of........

Crap I don't know how to hide a spoiler.... IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW STOP READING!!!!!

According to some theorists out there he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark Not the bastard son of Ned Stark but Ned knew if they found out who Jon Snow really was that he would be murdered by the Lannisters or Baratheon's.

All I have to say with what else you said is I MISS Ned Stark I loved his Character he was by far my favorite....

Mistborn was a kick ass trilogy! I'm still chomping at the bit for the new Patrick Rothfuss book. If the you haven't read the first 2 books in his Kingkiller Chronicles, rectify that situation IMMEDIATELY!
