Game Of Thrones Season 6 releases its first trailer

Here's the first teaser trailer for Game Of Thrones' hotly anticipated sixth season. Giving away nothing in terms of plot or new cast, it does succeed rather well in setting a mood. That mood being one of dreadful anticipation, of course.

As you'll have seen, the clip takes us into the Hall Of Faces in the House Of Black And White, lately the home of Arya Stark until she rather disappointed the Many Faced God and his acolytes. It's essentially a these-we-have-lost recap, driving by a handful of the show's many deceased characters, including various Starks and a Baratheon. And a Snow? We'll see about that in due course...

Season 6 of Game Of Thrones is the first to go significantly beyond George R.R. Martin's existing novels, so it's understandable that the storylines are being kept tightly under wraps. For once, everyone's on the same page now, whether they've read the books or not. Martin has recently apologised for not being faster with his word processor. The Winds Of Winter, the sixth novel in the Song Of Ice And Fire sequence on which Game Of Thrones is based, remains without a set publication date, five years on from A Dance With Dragons.

Game Of Thrones will be back simultaneously on HBO and Sky Atlantic on Monday April 25. Night owls (or ravens) can catch it at 2am, with a repeat showing at 9pm that night.
