Funimation Lists Live-action As The Gods Will, Prison School Home Video Releases

FUNimation Entertainment is listing a June 5 home video release for the live-action film adaptation of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Akeji Fujimura's As the Gods Will (Kami-sama no Iu Toori) manga. Funimation is also listing a home video release for the live-action series adaptation of Akira Hiramoto's Prison School series on June 26.

Funimation was previously listed as the distributor for the film in 2016 when it screened at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival.

Funimation describes the story:

High school student Shun Takahata is bored. Bored with the day-to-day monotony of school and life, he prays for change, for something exciting. The last thing he expects is for the gods to answer. Suddenly, he and his classmates are forced to play deadly children's games and facing terrifying creatures from a talking Daruma doll to a sharp-clawed lucky cat. Who will survive the gods' games?
As the Gods Will premiered in Japan in November 2014. Takashi Miike (Crows Zero, Ichi the Killer) directed the film, and it stars Sōta Fukushi (live-action Library Wars/Toshokan Sensō) as Shun Takahata, Hirona Yamazaki (Lesson of the Evil, Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu) as Shun's childhood friend Ichika Akimoto, and Ryunosuke Kamiki (Summer Wars, Howl's Moving Castle, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen) as Shun's violence-loving classmate Takeru Amaya.



Funimation offered a simulcast for the Prison School series in 2015. Funimation describes the story:

When the prestigious all-girls Hachimitsu Private Academy becomes co-ed, five young men are the first males to attend. But the girls aren't so accepting of their new classmates. After the boys get caught peeping, The Underground Student Council enforces an absurd punishment. For a month, the boys must live within the school's very own penal system while enduring long, hard, and humiliating tasks.
Noboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl, Nuigurumaa Z) directed the late-night series at the production studio ROBOT.

The manga also inspired a 12-episode television anime, which Funimation also released in North America. Yen Press is releasing the manga.
