This year's November issue of Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine announced on Wednesday that Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will resume his Archaic Smile manga. The three-chapter manga will restart from the beginning in the December issue on November 4. After three months, when all the chapters have been reserialized, a new sequel is planned.

Sadamoto published the manga irregularly with his wife and author Mako Takaha in Kadokawa's now-defunct Comic CHARGE magazine from 2007 to 2008. Sadamoto mentioned in an interview in 2014 that he had plans to resume the manga.

The manga is a romantic comedy following Mitsuru Kobayakawa, a man who loves the image of Buddha more than anything else, and the office's "number one beauty" Haruka Yuzuki.

Sadamoto designed the characters in the original Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series from Gainax, as well as Hideaki Anno and Khara's ongoing film revamp of the story. He also completed the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion in 2014, more than 18 years after he started.

Sadamoto designed the characters in other Gainax projects such as Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honnêamise, Nadia, FLCL, and Gunbuster 2: Diebuster. He collaborated with Mamoru Hosoda on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children. Sadamoto's other design credits include "A Tale of Two Robots: Chapter Meiji" in Robot Carnival, the .hack game and anime franchise, and the live-action Attack on Titan films. He will return to design characters for FLCL 2.
