DTR Calendar - Initial Planning

So the time has come again in which I am looking for the community to help create a calendar for the anime community. After last years success I am hoping we can do even better this year. Unlike last year however the calendar will be designed with Rainmeter in mind instead of being designed for print.

For those of you who were not present or aware of the original calendar, it was a project I started last year around autumn time in an attempt to get the community to come together and pool their artistic abilities into creating a themed calendar.

A few aims for this year:
-Have more people involved
-Collect enough pages to make multiple calendars covering a variety of themes
-Fine tune the process from before
-Give people enough time to make something awesome

Although I would like to use themes again I would also like to open it up to people being able to team up and create a calendar with one theme or a calendar with a theme per month. Last year we initially had more people interested than participated so ideally it would be awesome to figure out what themes are wanted then allow anyone to make a submission for the themes instead of assigning them.

For the main Calendar I am going to follow a similar set up to last time in which each month will have a theme that is decided on by the community. You may post your suggestions and as many as you may like at which point I will go through and try to narrow them down to the most popular ones. Of course if you plan to make alternative calendars then you are free to use any theme you like but I would like to try and make the original similar to it's predecessor.

I agree I like the bottom one. But I have a Q? so is it going to be a single day calender where you post that day with a different picture following the theme for that month of the calendar? and I might be able to help with the designing of the calender it depends on what I am doing but usually nothing so... Ya.

 

A fair few people want to make it an image a day however for now (due to how much work it would be) I am going to say that it will be a monthly theme with monthly images. @Hikikomori is currently the awesome person working on the rainmeter side of it so ideally I don't want her having to do more than she wants to do since the aim is to be fun for the community while making it

 

Ya I have a stupid Q? whats a rainmeter?

 

Rainmeter basically allows you to customise your desktop with overlays and "apps" so to speak. The Calendar will appear on the desktop and be scaleable to fit the size of the desktop. Search "Rainmeter" for more info.

Nice crazy but I don't think there's a Crazy Potato month on any calandar I've owned (hehe)

 

I don't like double posting (and I try to avoid doing so) and I apologize doing so. Anyways, here's what the current plan for the rainmeter skin from my understanding. Talking with Joshier and others via Skype, it seems most liked the idea of a day-by-day calendar (I.E. a different image for each day). This is fine by me as I'll only have to add one extra line of code (in theory). I will add a picture showing how the folders and images will have to be arranged (when I get a bit of free time) for rainmeter to display the proper image. We also would like to add an editable note section for the End-user to be able to jot down note like a digital sticky note. I also will be adding a scale variable like I did with the JD calendar, so it will fit on any screen size. As many here don't know rainmeter's scripting, I plan on making this an external variable and adding a "hot" corner, that when clicked, will open this external variable for easy scale changes. In total, there will be three files (with the exception of all the images) that make up the skin; the main INI (the skin), the external INI (scale), and the note TXT (for the notes). If for whatever reason rainmeter will not allow me to do a day-by-day set up, we can still do it by the month.

 

Here is the proposed themes the weeks. feel free to modify/edit them as deemed necessary. the empty spaces are open for those that have ideas for themes. if you might ask, i based the weeks on the 2014 calendar.

A bit too early, lol, but I will keep that in mind. Once all the basic details are finalized and we have the template finished, I will create a second thread for people to claim weeks and explain some minor points.
