Square Enix began streaming a prologue video for its upcoming Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete(Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time) role-playing game on Monday.

Square Enix also began streaming ads for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 versions.

    Nintendo 3DS:

    PlayStation 4:

The game will ship in Japan for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS on July 29. Kadokawa director Hirokazu Hamamura projected that the game will sell more than 5 million copies in Japan. Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki said on his Twitter account that a public relations representative said "support is planned" for a Nintendo Switch version of the game, but no announcements have been made. Square Enix said in 2015 that there are no "concrete plan" yet to release the game in the West.

Packaged and download versions of the game for PlayStation 4 will cost 8,980 yen (about US$81), and the Nintendo 3DS versions will cost 5,980 (US$54). A special box set will also offer the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo3DS games together for 14,960 yen (US$136). The set will feature special boxes and only be available through the Square Enix e-Store and LAWSON HMV. The first copies of the game will include the "Vest of Happiness" and "Upstart Vest" in-game items.

The game's protagonist is a young hero raised in the tranquil town of Ishi in the game's world of "Lotozetacia." On the day he turned 16 (when one becomes an adult at Ishi), he embarks on an adventure. The protagonist's friend is Kamyu, a blue-haired thief whom the protagonist encountered on his journey.

Square Enix confirmed that the game's story will take about 50 hours to complete and more than 100 hours with the side elements. Players will be able to use the “Spell of Restoration." The new game will feature the recurring casino mini-game, and the recurring "puff-puff" ability.
