Dexter veteran Scott Buck will bring Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist to screens

With Daredevil and Jessica Jones already on screens and Luke Cage in production to hit Netflix next year, Iron Fist was beginning to look like it had feet of clay. But the fourth of the series in the planned linked Defenders deal between the streaming service and Marvel has finally found a show-runner in Scott Buck.

The comic book character will be brought to life on the show as Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being listed as missing for years. When he finds the criminal element corrupting his home, he sets out to battle the bad guys with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” says Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters,” says Buck, “and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and Iron Fist to life.” A veteran of shows such as Dexter (where he worked with Jessica Jones show-runner Melissa Rosenberg), Rome and Six Feet Under, Buck will get cracking on the show, presumably aiming to have it ready for either late 2016 or, more likely at some point in 2017. Once all four series have premiered, the heroes can unite for the planned Defenders miniseries. Daredevil is back probably around April next year (if it maintains the same release slot), with Luke Cage due later in 2016.
