This year's 32nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sundaymagazine revealed on Wednesday that Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan manga will take a seven-week hiatus starting with the magazine's next issue and continuing through the 39th issue. Aoyama will conduct research during the hiatus. The manga will resume in the magazine's 40th issue.

The magazine also noted that Meitantei Conan Zero no Tea Time(Detective Conan: Zero's Tea Time), the spinoff manga series by Takahiro Arai centering on the character Tōru Amuro, will run throughout Detective Conan's hiatus. The magazine noted that, moving forward, the magazine will publish chapters of the Meitantei Conan Zero no Tea Timemanga when the Detective Conan manga is on hiatus, and will not publish chapters of the manga otherwise.

The main Detective Conan manga went on an extended hiatus in December so that Aoyama could receive medical treatment and "recharge." Aoyama resumed the series on April 11.

The manga returned from its previous hiatus on November 29 last year, and the magazine's first 2018 issue published the second chapter in the manga's new arc. The magazine's 45th issue had revealed in October that the manga would take a break so Aoyama could conduct research.

Arai (Tenshō no Quadrable, Cirque du Freak) launched the Meitantei Conan Zero no Tea Time manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday on May 9. Aoyama has "complete supervision" over the work.

The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.

Detective Conan has been running since 1994 and in August it became the first Weekly Shonen Sunday series to publish its 1,000th chapter. The manga's 94th compiled book volume shipped last December. The manga has spawned an ongoing anime series, and a yearly anime film series. The 22st film in the series, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer (Meitantei Conan Zero no Shikkōnin), opened on April 13, and earned the highest-earning film in the franchise's history. Aoyama's various manga series have a combined 200 million copies in print worldwide.
