The wraparound jacket band on the fourth volume (pictured at right) of Megumu Aya, Hiro Ainana, and shri's Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody (Death March Kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyōsōkyoku) manga series is revealing on Saturday that the franchise is getting an anime adaptation.

The manga itself adapts Ainana's light novel series of the same name. shri illustrates the light novel series and serves as the original character designer on Aya's manga adaptation.

The story of the light novel series and manga follows a 29-year-old programmer who is on a "death march," but one day he wakes up in another world after a nap. From a meteor shower he happens to gain vast riches, and he decides to go sightseeing. So begins his "heartwarming, occasionally serious, and harem" adventure in another world.

Ainana initially began posting the series online in 2013, and Kadokawa published the first volume with illustrations by shri in in March 2014. Kadokawa will publish the ninth novel volume in print on Saturday.

Aya began the manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Age Premium magazine, but the series moved to Monthly Dragon Age when Age Premium ceased publication in July 2015. Kadokawa streamed a promotional video for the manga adaptation last month.

Yen Press has licensed the original light novel series and the manga adaptation. The company will release the first light novel volume digitally and in print on January 24. Yen Press published the first volume of Aya's manga on November 22.
