Mods no longer have the ability to view IPs. Admins including myself, Ella, Vapen and Jay can still see them.

The short answer is privacy issues. I feel that mods knowing others IP benefits nobody. An argument to this was troublemakers switching accounts after a warning. If switching accounts was a real issue I feel mods would be addressing it more and reporting it as this is a user circumventing infractions. We have no habitual offenders and if someone does need to be monitored and have their IP compared against other accounts an admin can do it.

Habitual harassment should be easy to tell. Proxys are banned but Chatango's IP blacklist isn't perfect and people still can slip through. We don't see it happen though. If someone wanted to annoy the chat and switch accounts after each infraction you'd see it happening. But we don't see it. Just feels like all of the reasons being brought up aren't happening enough for it to be considered a problem.

If there is a sudden flux in offenders we can go back to the old method but I honestly think this will change nothing on your ends.

I apologize for not posting this sooner. I just didn't see it being a big deal or I would have made an announcement about it. I guess that was an oversight on my part. Once it was brought up in staff chat I felt the need to rectify the mistake.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to reply.

It's going to be weird seeing IP addresses as a Forum Admin on the forum, but not in chat. LMAO. I'll probably have to keep the thread in a new tab just to remind me of mod permission changes, at least until I've adjusted to the change.

As for privacy, I'm not so sure it's so much as privacy concerns (unless that was brought up in chat when I wasn't paying attention in the official capacity) as it is the fact that it's too easy to accidentally copy and paste something that's private, especially if you use custom themes and change the layout structure. More mods, means more possibility of accidents, even by default theme. Hell, I was likely the first to do an accidental reveal by screenshot. Luckily, it wasn't in a text via chat (which would have needed an admin or owner account to delete it), but an image that I still had open for editing so I could remove it quickly, without an admin or owner account's assistance. Screenshots are a pain to filter when filling out warnings/ban reports.

Hurray for the forum edit button. People can self-edit posts, unlike Chatango.

---- rant about Chatango itself ----
Click-prompts where you need to click a button to reveal the IP probably would have made Chatango's IP viewing more staff friendly and beneficial to privacy. Getting Chatango to respond to feedback, much less do any updates to the chat's current problems, is like talking to a brick wall. There is no community forum, no support chat/channel (ironic for a chat company), and no support ticket system. Just a form to email them, which doesn't guarantee they actually received it or not.
    ---- end rant ----

While I dislike it(Mainly because I use it to monitor multiple account users such as Nate or "Uninterested" or his friend Anna, and Hinata), I can manage to deal with it. Just gotta get used to it. Also, I might mention there are other ways to obtain IP's, so I don't really get why this is a change. But to each their own. :)
