Cells At Work Black Spinoff Manga Ends 1st Part

This year's combined 36th and 37th issue of Kodansha's Morningmagazine published the end of the first part of Shigemitsu Harada and Issei Hatsuyoshi's Hataraku Saibō BLACK (Cells at Work! BLACK) spinoff manga on Thursday. The manga's second part will launch on October 11.

The manga is set inside the body of someone who drinks too much, smokes, and has high stress and cholesterol, with cells struggling to fulfill their duties, and the possibility of cells dying is a daily reality. In the manga's story, cells work in a "black" environment in the body of a human in poor health. The person drinks and eats too much, has insufficient physical activity, and has high stress.

Harada and Hatsuyoshi launched the manga in Morning and the Weekly D Morning digital manga magazine on June 7. Kodansha published the manga's first compiled book volume on July 9.

Akane Shimizu's original Cells at Work! manga launched in the March 2015 issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius, and Kodansha shipped the fifth compiled volume in Japan in August 2017. Kodansha Comics shipped the manga's fifth volume last November.

The manga ranked on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook's 2016 list of top graphic novels for male readers. Haruyuki Kichida launched the Hataraku Saikin (Bacteria at Work) spinoff manga in Nakayoshi in April 2017. Moe Sugimoto launched another spinoff manga titled Hatarakanai Saibō (Cells That Don't Work) in July 2017.

The manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation that premiered on July 7. Aniplex of America is streaming the series on Crunchyroll.
