Captain Tsubasa Gets Giant Stained Glass Window At Train Station In Saitama

The Japan Traffic Culture Association, in collaboration with the Saitama Railway Corporation and with assistance from the Japan Lottery Association, held an unveiling ceremony on Sunday at the Urawa-Misono Station station in Saitama City to unveil a large stained glass window based on Yōichi Takahashi's Captain Tsubasa manga.





Takahashi himself drew the original image the window is based on, and also supervised the project. The name of the art project is "Captain Tsubasa: Sekai ni Habatake" (Captain Tsubasa: Soar to the World).

The entire artwork is 20 meters (about 65 feet) long and features 99 characters from the soccer manga in famous scenes. Urawa-Misono Station is also where Japan's largest soccer stadium, the Saitama Stadium 2002, is located. The station is about a 45-minute train ride from Tokyo Station, so it's a pretty easy day trip for visitors to Tokyo.

The new Captain Tsubasa anime will retell the story of the manga from the beginning. The original soccer manga revolves around 11-year old Tsubasa Ōzora, a boy who loves soccer and is recognized by his coach Roberto due to his skill of the sport. Tsubasa goes with his coach to Brazil in order to train for the World Cup.

The new series will premiere in Japan on April 2. Viz Media has licensed the anime. The license includes digital streaming, electronic sell-through (EST), home video, and merchandise rights for North America and Latin America.
