CAPCOM revealed Devil May Cry 5, the newest installment in its Devil May Cry action game series, during Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference on Sunday. The game is slated for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in spring 2019.

    CAPCOM describes the game:

Years have passed since the events of Devil May Cry 4, and a lot has happened. Young demon hunter Nero has lost his Devil Bringer demon arm… but hey! He's now heading his own branch of the demon-hunting business Devil May Cry. To make up for that lost arm, and keep his style rankings up, he's enlisted the help of expert craftswoman Nico, a brand new character in the series, to lend a hand and build different types of prosthetic arms that unlock new badass combat abilities and devastating powers.

Hideaki Itsuno returns to direct the game. The trailer shows Nero, the protagonist of Devil May Cry 4, as a playable character. Dante, the main protagonist of the first three games, appears at the end of the trailer. The game will feature three playable characters.

The last release in the series, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, launched in June 2015 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This edition is an updated version of the original 2008 Devil May Cry 4 PC/Xbox 360 game. CAPCOMreleased the Devil May Cry HD Collection set for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in North America on March 13. The collection contains the first three games in the series.

Devil May Cry celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2016. The game series has inspired novels and manga. Sengoku Basara vs. Devil May Cry, a stage play adaptation, debuted at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo in August 2015.

The franchise inspired the Devil May Cry TV anime series in in 2007. ADV Films originally released the series on home video, and Funimation later picked up the license. Crunchyroll began streaming the anime last June.

Game director and designer Hideaki Itsuno said in January 2017 that he hoped to announce a new game in 2017. Itsuno has directed Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Devil May Cry 4, Dragon's Dogma, and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.
