I chose this title because I feel it describes the anime perfectly. The main character, Ren Mihashi, is a star pitcher, everyone knows it. The only person who doesn't know it is Ren himself. He believes he is a horrible pitcher and constantly is afraid the team will force him to not be the starting pitcher. As the series progresses, you realize that the only thing that's stopping Ren is his own self esteem. He has put so much time and effort into practicing that he very nearly burns himself out a few times. His pitching style is unique and only his as well, which tends to throw his opponents off. I personally think he is worthy of the "Ace" title because he worked so hard for it. What about you? Do you think he earned his "Ace" title or do you think he should work harder? That's for you to decide after watching this anime.

This is coming from a guy who has watched baseball religiously for the past 10 years, Mihashi is not and "Ace". He's a good pitcher, but the ace of a pitching staff has to be a guy that goes out onto the mound every start and has the confidence and the stuff to lead to success. An ace will limit the damage and face tough situations with their best stuff rather than crack under pressure and have to have their catcher come out seemingly every batter to calm them down. An ace has to be able to think for themselves and adjust to the situation rather then have to be told how to use their pitches. Mihashi is a good pitcher with good talent and potential, but he's nowhere close to an ace.

Well even the best pitcher has some interplay with his catcher. It's normally not as top down as it was in Big windup, but real life pitchers do look for calls on what to throw sometimes.
He's probably not an ace, but he's definitely worthy of being a starting pitcher because of his exceptional control. I feel this series benefits from that understanding, not everybody needs to be a closer, and he's definitely got a great power, enough to be a good starting pitcher.
