The June issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine revealed on Saturday that Masaki Segawa's Jū ~Ninpō Makai Tenshō~ manga will end in the magazine's next issue on June 20.

The manga's story is set in Japan in the year 1638, and tells of master swordsmen who have all died but are being resurrected for nefarious purposes.

The manga launched in 2012 as an adaptation of Futaroh Yamada's classic Makai Tenshō novel, which serialized under the title Oboro Ninpōchō in Osaka Shimbun from 1964-1965. Kodansha published the manga's 12th compiled book volume on February 6.

The novel has inspired several films, as well as earlier manga adaptations by artists such as Shouko Toba, Ken Ishikawa, Shinzo Tomi. The novels were the basis for the 1998 original video anime Ninja Resurrection.

Segawa's original Basilisk manga adapts Futaroh Yamada's 1959 novel Kōga Ninpōchō (The Kouga Ninja Scrolls). The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 2005, as well as a live-action film titled SHINOBI - Heart Under Blade the same year.

The Basilisk franchise recently received a new television anime and manga titled Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls (Basilisk: Ōka Ninpōchō), based on Masaki Yamada's sequel novels for Basilisk. Kodansha published the two novels in November and December 2015, with illustrations by Segawa. The anime premiered on January 8. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub. Tatsuya Shihara launched the manga last July in Young Magazine.
