Appleseed Alpha CG Anime Film Screenshots Unveiled

Australian communications agency Way To Blue unveiled thirteen new screenshots from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Appleseed Alpha, a CG-animated film inspired by Masamune Shirow's science-fiction manga Appleseed. The film is slated to ship on Blu-ray and DVD on July 22 in North America after a digital release on July 15.

Shinji Aramaki (Starship Troopers: Invasion, Space Pirate Captain Harlock) is returning to direct this new project after helming two previous CG Appleseed films. Joseph Chou (Appleseed: Ex Machina, Halo Legends) is producing at Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and the Japanese studio Lucent Pictures Entertainment.



The new film will be "a reboot that will depict the early days of Deunan and Briareos in search of the legendary city of Olympus." IGN posted more screenshots from the film.

The Blu-ray and DVD release will include a director's commentary and 11 making-of featurettes. The soundtrack features 12 songs by Yasutaka Nakata (Capsule), Skrillex & Alvin Risk, Androp, DJ Fumiya (Rip Slyme), Passepied, Q;indivi+, tofubeats, AKLO, 80KIDZ, nishi-ken, and RAM RIDER. Square Enix will release Play Arts Kai figurines of Deunan and Briareos this summer, and Hot Toys is developing 1/6-scale articulated figures. The film will also get a spin-off manga.
