P.A. Works and Showgate revealed on Thursday that P.A. Works is producing Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou (Let Us Adorn the Morning of Farwells With Flowers), an anime film opening in Japan on February 24, 2018. The film marks the directorial debut of prolific anime screenwriter Mari Okada, and she is also penning the film's script. P.A. Works opened a website for the film, which is streaming a teaser trailer.

Okada said that the film's story "will be about contact between people with interwoven meetings and partings. The story will depict a human drama like everyone has experienced at some point that gradually pierces the heart."

Okada commented on her role in the film: "As a screenwriter, I've wanted to write this story for a long time. As a director, to be able to affect things beyond the script, such as the video and sound, is both a pleasure and a challenge." She said that she chose to become a director after P.A. Works CEO Kenji Horikawa said to her that he "wanted to see a work where she gave her full 100%," and thinking about what that meant. In the end, she decided that becoming a director – with their responsibility of heading the group effort of anime production, and giving directions to each team of a studio from beginning to end – was the best way to achieve that, and asked Horikawa for the opportunity.

Akihiko Yoshida (Nier: Automata, Bravely Default, Final Fantasy XIV games) is credited with the original character designs. Mari Okada (The Anthem of the Heart, anohana) is directing and writing the scripts at P.A. Works, and Toshiya Shinohara (A Lull in the Sea, Red Data Girl) is chief director. Yuriko Ishii (Kuromukuro, Another) is designing the characters for animation and is chief animation director. Kazuki Higashiji (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, A Lull in the Sea) is art director, and Tomoaki Okada (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, Blast of Tempest) is in charge of art design and concept design. Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru) is composing the music, and Kazuhiro Wakabayashi (Ghost in the Shell, Bungo Stray Dogs) is sound director.

Okada has collaborated with P.A. Works many times in the past, beginning with True Tears, the studio's first production as the main animation studio for an anime production. She has written scripts for such P.A. Works productions as CANAAN, Hana-Saku Iroha aA Lull in the Sea. Her other notable works include The Lost Village, anohana, The Anthem of the Heart, Kiznaiver, and Toradora!. She recently collaborated with director Tatsuyuki Nagai to serve as the series composition for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The anime was their fourth such collaboration after Toradora!, anohana, and The Anthem of the Heart. Ankoku Joshi, her first scriptwriting work on a live-action film, opened in Japan on April 1.

@Supernatural-Knight Up your alley since you like drama. But Okada is absolute shit so unless the cast is good, I won't be watching it.

Oh I already plan on watching it. A movie by PA Works is a must watch for me regardless of it being good or bad. Their animation quality with a movie budget should be something else, it might make the characters look worse if their scenery porn gets any better. Like TRIGGER I watch everything PA does, and while I've been disappointed a few more times, some of my favourite anime also comes from them.
Maddy you should watch this, think of the delicious drama.

Although there is a correction to be made in your article. I know for a fact that PA did not do Mayoiga, MAL says it was Diomedea.

Maybe, although from her notable roles I've enjoyed more than not. If she helped with Anthem of the Heart then there is promise because that was a good movie as far as I'm concerned.
I do want some good drama anime.

@Noobs @Negi-Springfield @BK-201 any plans on watching this movie when it comes out?

ohhh its like in the same time period as spice and wolf. im always interested anything medieval. i wont be watching it on the big screen though. well for now i think as i have no idea of what the story would be. initial bio is too vague for me to expect something as at was generically written like any drama out there would be. excitement? not so but ill keep an eye on it. P.A hasnt disappointed me yet (well i still have to finish glass slip so that might be it). oh speaking of disappointment, any news about that furry anime @bk201 shared a while ago @Supernatural-Knight?

I try to watch everything PA works, so I might give it a try, but I also tend to avoid movies, so one of you guys is going to have to remind me.

Is Sakura Quest any good? I am behind on everything.

Glasslip is easily the worst thing from PA, which I find funny that I actually rated it lower than all of my friends on MAL despite still being a fanboy of the studio. Although I also disliked Uchouten Kazoku last season, my ratings say they are tied worst. Furry anime that I shared, you mean Uma Musume the horse idol school girls ? Well they released a trailer the other day for it, looks like fun.

Will do, chances are I'l be hyped about watching it and check it out immediately. Although we'll probably have to wait another year and a half for it at least.
And yes Sakura Quest is good to me. A bunch of twenty something year olds working their hardest to revive a rural town. I have been enjoying every episode despite it being slow paced. Sandal is a hilarious character even without much screen time. You should try it, Noobs should look into it as well.
How good varies obviously but fun at least.

You're better off starting with Shirobako and Hanasaku Iroha, apparently they're part of a series.

Looks promisingly like the great stuff PA used to make before the series "that never happened"!

Would love to see more Shirobako though.

More misinformation. They are part of PA's working girl series. A collection of shows about girls working, not a single series with multiple seasons. Unless they eventually plan on linking them [which I'd love, but doubt very highly] they don't share anything in common besides a group of girls working as the main theme. Closest they have come to linking series as far as I know is by having a poster for Tari Tari in Shirobako I think it was, or having a look alike background character that slightly resembled Ohana.

Which series? Am I doing it right? Although movie budget BK. This is guaranteed to look amazing from start to finish regardless so I don't mind what happens.
Everyone wants more Shirobako, it was a fun ride. Too bad Uchouten Kazoku had to be the first anime in their portfolio that got a second season.

MAL says you've got it on hold after only 2 eps, you should really do something about that.

Aww you missed your chance to post the gif. I guess this is proof I can be as good as CNN.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Seasonal shit takes priority.... if I ever finish LoGH, I've been stuck on episode 45 for a few months now.

There was also that music video Utopia that had characters from Tari Tari, True Tears and Hanasaku Iroha.

    I was referring to Glasslip.

I was about to start the 2nd season as I enjoyed the 1st.

See there's your problem. LoGH is the anime you watch when you've had enough of anime. After that point onwards everything you watch is shit. That is why I still haven't started it. Seasonal stuff is too interesting to quit.

You know I kind of forgot about that one. Funny considering how hyped I was for the whole time after it was announced. A good fun music video nonetheless.
Never heard of it. The characters and drama in that was crap, definitely very unlike PA Works.
Apparently I enjoyed S1 too, rated it a 7, but I don't actually remember liking it. I must have felt generous when I finished that. S2 is more of the same but added some PA vibes with certain events. Unfortunately I hate most of the characters, esp Benten, so that helped to ruin it once again.
