Basically, I have playing around with the idea of starting a gaming channel on Youtube (novel idea, I know), But I honestly have no idea about capture cards or editing software. Basically, I don't know anything about the things I really should do if I seriously want to do this.
So, I'm here to ask, what are some good capture cards, as well as if they can capture gameplay from older systems (PS2, Gamecube, etc.), and what are some reasonably good editing software for someone new to the whole thing.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry if these questions are vague. Like I said, I'm clueless about this stuff.

EDIT: If anyone also has some info on good quality microphones, that would be greatly appreciated.

@Sporadic Thanks for the info. I've edited the original post to include a query about microphones, if you know anything useful.

For use with consoles during live recording or as something you'll add in post recording during the editing process?

I'm probably going to do the latter. No sure I understand the first option though.

I use a Haupaugge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition recording box to record with. it's pretty small so u can take it places too and record at other people's houses as well.

I know alot of youtubers who use the El Gado so that's a safe choice to go with as well. I've also heard good things about the Avermedia gaming portable device too.

as for Mics, idk really I do know not to buy a Turtle Beach Z11. they suck. I just use my ps vita to record my audio, by recoding video while i talk then cut out the video portion leaving the audio track in tact.
