The school romantic comedy revolves around a second-year high school student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina—a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist—moves into Sakurasou.

Sorata thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from the weirdos at Sakurasou, but Mashiro has a surprising secret: she has no idea how to take care of herself. She gets lost if she goes out, and her room is a complete mess. Sorata's dorm mates designate him as the "master" of Mashiro, and thus, an ordinary boy and a brilliant girl must live like "a master and his pet."

Oohh.. I forgot to put my rant here? lol

This anime was way overrated. Granted, I never finished it, but for the love of god, I don't know how anyone can give this anime above a 6. Just goes to show people are suckers for sad endings [assuming the ending is sad. at least that's what my friends said].

@Lince I actually liked this anime quite a bit. MAL says I gave it an 8 while watching it weekly so I must have liked it a lot, especially for a romance anime.
Then again since I hate the romance genre in general when a different kind of romance anime comes out I like it a bit more than others. The more unorthodox the romance anime is the better my chance of liking it is. I think this is true at least.

well this anime gave me a surprise as i thought it would be another fan servicey anime with little to no plot. the first 3 eps did give that vibe but everything changed when the fire nation attacked. well jokes aside, the story became interesting as each ep passed by. character development is decent, interesting supporting characters got introduced except for that rival girl painter which i think was a nuisance.

Same here. I actually even rated as 9. It may not be anything special but every episode was entertaining for sure. I was slightly pissed off by Shiina's personality... but without her the comedy part would be ruined. It was definitely an enjoyable anime to watch once per week.

Maybe this is the issue, Sakurasou could possibly be better to watch once weekly instead of in one sitting. I liked almost everything from it so yay for a romance that I don't actually hate and rated better than just a "good".

I honestly don't understand how anyone can enjoy it. Remember, I never finished it. I have no opinions on the ending, but only on the garbage beginning.

The beginning was absolute shit. Every single episode they threw anime cliche after anime cliche at you and made it clear they were just trying to waste time until they can get to what they actually planned for the anime. Having a good ending or whatever doesn't make up for the fact that I was literally grinding through episode after episode in the beginning. How would you feel if you had to watch the same things over and over again, just with different characters? [The endless Eight for Haruhi is a perfect test to see if you can stomach mediocrity]. That's how I feel about cliches. Anyone who can possibly enjoy seeing the same exact "MC gets misunderstood and is taken for a pervert" or "MC is dragged around by the other characters because fuck it plot progression," I salute you, because I can't. I've come to expect more out of anime, seeing as how Sakurasou was rated pretty highly and my friends all said it was good. I felt sincerely disappointed that this anime was rated as highly as it was.

I predicted most of the ending literally around the 6th episode and when I went to ask my brother about it he said I was mostly right. That doesn't really sit well with me.

Sure, if you've never seen anime before, you can definitely like this anime. If you've even seen a romance anime before that one, I don't know how you can stomach how painfully cliche it is. Watching 1 episode a week is a clever way to mask just how little that anime had to offer over the first 10 or so episodes [I think I dropped it around there].

It simply comes to your personal taste and expectations. I was looking for an easy going anime and Sakurasou started airing just at perfect time for me. Yes, it is cliche but it's not as bad many other similar type of anime. The beginning indeed was "meh", but once all the characters got introduced and we got to see their background like why they are in that house, it got significantly better. Some episodes were more focused for pure comedy but there were instances of those "feels" moments too. To see how hard Aoyama is working for her dream job and living all that shit together was actually pretty sad. I started rooting for her that she will find a way to find happiness in her life as Shiina literally got everything by just having a talent, pretty face and empty head (which is why she is being looked after like some disabled person)... I really disliked Shiina and how she got everything for granted but without her it would have been a boring anime.

I can't say I don't understand your frustration but I really can't understand how can you say "who could enjoy this shit"... We all have different taste and expectations... but we don't go and call everything shit that we didn't like. I really hate Evangelion, like super hate. That is complete garbage to me but I can understand that there are people who will say it's amazing series. It's fine to dislike it but no need to question others like saying "My taste is godlike and whoever disagrees is just a trash". That's the attitude I feel from your comments regarding this thread.

    This is what I said.

This is what you're saying I said. You're misinterpreting what I'm trying to say, and not once did I ever insult anyone's taste in this thread. If i'd have said something like "Your taste in anime is shit because you enjoyed this anime," then you'd have an argument. I'm not Maddy xD

I don't. I don't see what you see. This isn't just a "not my cup of tea" anime that I can recognize great quality for like I did with Steins;Gate even though it wasn't my genre of choice. I honestly don't see this anime the same way you do. I don't understand how there are people who say it's an amazing series, just like I don't understand how people watch My Bride is a Mermaid dubbed.

I don't rip people for their preferences; I don't rip people for their tastes; everyone has a right to their opinion; and saying that you can't call something shit because you didnt like it is just stupid. Sometimes, not liking something, and that something being shit, are two in the same. In this sense, I didn't like it, cause it was shit. Your comments on Evangelion are pretty irrelevant honestly, saying that I can't call something shit even though I didn't like it, just cause you liked it? That's a logical fallacy if I ever saw one. When I rate anime, I give credit where credit is due, even if the anime is not my genre of choice. Steins;Gate was a great quality anime that I gave a 10 because the production value was immense, even though I didn't enjoy it as much as Nazo no Kanojo X, one of my guilty pleasures, which I gave a 9 because I enjoyed it even though from a production value standpoint the anime was bad. In Sakurasou, I saw neither the production value nor the enjoyment in the episodes I watched.

I don't see the quality in the beginning of Sakurasou. I have every right to call what i've seen of the anime shit. I don't understand how anyone can enjoy it. You do, Super does, and a lot of other people do, but I don't understand. Not once did I ever say you didn't have a right to enjoy it.

As I mentioned that's the attitude I feel coming from your comments, not that you directly said it. You only keep questioning how could people like it... well maybe because we aren't you and have a different approach to the anime. Lets not forget that you were expecting a lot cuz of your friends or ratings. I used to watch all new anime eps 1 and that's how I found this one. I really had no idea what to expect, so maybe that's why I also had a different feeling than you. Although I must mention I am not a big romance fan but I honestly didn't even find a lot of romance here. It was more daily life with struggles seeking their dream job.

I laughed. I do this too on occasion, maybe a but more frequently than that....
I kind of approve of making this comment though. While it sounds awfully negative it means that you're willing to debate it to the end if need be. You can't have a good discussion unless someone is on the opposite side of it.

That is a true reviewer for you, my scores are entirely based upon my enjoyment of it. I couldn't bring myself to do that.

In this case I del that you were screwed over Lince. You were expecting great things and were let down, I can't tell you how many anime this has happened to for me. When people overhype something it really has to be special to even live up to that and when it doesn't you're left feeling disappointed so I get how you feel.
For me I had low expectations because the romance genre was listed so what I got was a nice surprise once weekly. People chasing their dreams is also fun to watch so I might have enjoyed that as well. Maybe I was caught up in it at the time or some other reason I have no idea but since MAL says I gave it an 8 not a 7 I must have liked it a lot. Going in with low expectations really helps.
