Mostly was curious to see if anyone else liked this. I f***ing loved it and am a bit obsessed with it at the moment. Plus I wanted to talk to people about it who have seen it. Hopefully I put it in the right section >.<

Toradora is cute as fuck. It's just the perfect anime to surrender your testosterone too.

I gave it an 8/10 just because I'm a shrewd and senile rater, but it was honestly a really sweet piece.

Only thing that irked me was that Taiga was pretty generic until the end, when she ACTUALLY became cute instead of the "Look at me! I'm a tsundere!" kind of bullshit cute that doesn't phase me any more.

EDIT: Let me re-phrase that... she was generic in the sense that I really couldn't seperate her from other tsuns I have seen. I honestly think Ryuji is the best character in the show, yet he never gets the credit he deserves.

I hate the show with a burning passion.
    -Predictable ending.
    +Good art style.
    -Predictable plot.
-----Loli no boobs heroine (loljk. but srsly she is)
It makes me want to Alt + F4 plus uninstall :(
For once when the girl the MC likes ACTUALLY likes him back, he changes his mind for the "tsundere" a.k.a. abusive biotch (not as bad as Louise) character. Such tragedy! Much Sad! Much WOW!
I MIGHT be tempted to watch the show again later (because I watched it during my romance spree) to get a more objective opinion, but idk if I can ever change my opinion of it because of the end.

Also I agree she is just the stereotypical tv trope tsun with hardly any distinct or original points. Nothing bad against her, just the role she attempts to fill. I have no ill will towards her..
except for maybe being a conniving biotch who stole the MC away :'( lol but really such sad :(

Yes, this is the right place. ..
For once, I agree with you Blazer :p I didn't like this anime at all. It's funny in places. But, for me it just came across as silly more than anything else. I did not enjoy it at all. Everyone else seems to enjoy it though. So I'll take my leave...

I thoroughly enjoyed Toradora. It was great to watch casually. It was funny and had great characters. Then it wraps up with an ending that hits you hard in the heart.
Sorry, but after that scene in their room with taiga in the blanket there's no way I could ever give a negative review of the show.
A little odd since I originally wanted him to get with Minori, but my mind was changed.

I would argue against this by saying she is one of the ones who helped make the trope at least as we know it. So the fact she's stereotypical is more because of later characters copying her rather than her not having anything worth mentioning herself. So she was a lot more original at the time.

But by now We've had about a million similar characters so the character type has gotten old.

I would argue back against this saying:
Light Novel released in 2006. She's not really 'original' for a tsundere.
She is one of the most known Tsunderes and probably is a good marker for more modern Tsunderes simply because she is well known. She is nothing more than filling a role that was invented before her time of the stereotypical role. If anything, her role was copied from older manga, novels or anime. If you like Wikipedia, they credit the term "Tsundere" becoming popular to the visual novel Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, released in 2001. The role has been around for quite a while and was well defined. She just re-hashed it out and people ate it up. No one really copied her for the role Tsundere. I wouldn't say she made the trope as we know it, she just took the trope as it was known and played it out in her story. I wouldn't agree she was more original at her time for being a Tsundere. ---Maybe for being a short, chibi-type, tsundere that bites people, but that has been done in other shows too. I liked the Tsundere that filled this exact role in GJ-BU. It was released after Toradora but I think they made a better character. So even though it fills a stereotypical role, they created a unique character to play it and define it in their own way. (Which I just happened to find enjoyable, a lot of opinions come together in this though. Subjective stuff :p)

By your argument you could say Louise from Familiar of Zero made the trope we know it today, Shana from Shakugan no shana (Released in 2002, which is pretty much Taiga was copied and pasted from) or any other random Tsundere character. It's a staple role that anyone can 'make it as we know it' depending on how much material you have read/watched to see the role. If you meant she 'made it as we know it' because she's just well known and portrays the role for all of the 'mainstream anime goers', then yes I agree with you in that regard. If you meant 'made it as we know it' because she defined it, I completely disagree.

So the fact that she is stereotypical is because she is unoriginal and lacks defining characteristics that distinguish her from other characters. (Be it Tsundere or otherwise) The great shows that people come to love can be old or new and have plenty of roles in them. The stories can be riddled with stereotypical roles yet still be enjoyable and popular. Toradora didn't do this for me. I saw staple characters in a staple and predictable story about love. They portrayed Taiga very well as a Tsundere but not as a unique character (in my opinion). Overall it was just semi-enjoyable and bland. I didn't see anything that pushed the characters or the story above the average with each role they filled or the story that went with it. Of course this is subjective and each person has their own take on how much they liked the story or characters. There's a lot of overlap from a pre-defined role that a character fills and their unique 'character' that defines them as an entity from others. I didn't see the unique 'character' part that made her different from Luoise or Shana and a defining characteristic that made me like her or care about her.

    so much text..*dies*
Well there's my opinions mixed with facts. If I have to I can try to explain my viewpoint on it more clearly. Don't really want to draw this out into some long debate or whatever so I can agree to disagree.
Bottom line: My boat was not floated. I'm glad if yours was.

I think toradora, aka Taiga , which is in the name. Then her nick name "Palmtop Tiger" is great tsun, not stereotypical. I mean the first episode made it clear. Of course I was watching for that wonderful romance which was fantastically. Her performance and emotion throughout the entire show, was superb , we hav the bottinling of the emotion, the outcry's, anger tears, fights, everything. Which made it that much better as the story built and the characters bonded , it all conculded in wave of feelz.

I enjoyed it a lot. In fact Toradora is the only show so far that I have found that I prefer the sub to and I am rewatching it again right now. I loved the characters although Ami bugs me and I loved how the relationship grew between Ryuji and Taiga from her trying to kill him to almost marriage.

In my opinion the show was good , in the sense that the MC actually picked a girl and got married to her which almost barely happens when there are 4 or more girls who like the MC. Although, I was rooting for Ami (the blue haired girl) until the last few episodes where Taiga actually stopped being a tsundere and was like "Ryuji forget everyone else and run away with me, I don't want you to chase after any other girl"
The drama in the middle was a bit annoying and interesting at the same time , mostly annoying since the Ryuji was causing a lot of pain to the others since he wanted to take care of Taiga but was still chasing Minori (something that Ami pointed out, "Stop playing house")

I thought Toradora! was pretty hilarious. I also felt that it accurately portrayed the general high school mindset/relationship.
