Bleach: 5 Characters Who Are Stronger Than Grimmjow (& 5 He Outclasses)

As the 6th strongest Arrancar, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez is a force to be reckoned with. Which Bleach characters can defeat him, and who falls short?



In Tite Kubo's hit animated series Bleach, fantasy action takes on a supernatural edge. The monsters are Hollows, or the tormented souls of the dead who stalk the earth and devour human souls. It's up to sword-carrying, black-robed Soul Reapers to fight and exorcise them, but some Hollows are too tough to handle, like Grimmjow.



A Hollow may become an Arrancar if exposed to the Hogyoku, restoring its human shape and removing its mask. Grimmjow is the 6th strongest Arrancar of all, with elite sword skills, ferocious instincts and a cat-like released form named Pantera. This makes him stronger than many Bleach characters, though some are even more powerful than him.


10Stronger Than Him: Baraggan Louisenbairn

Baraggan Louisenbairn is the #2 Espada, and he is so powerful, he was only defeated when his own power was turned against him. He is the master of aging — all physical things and energy alike rapidly age, rot and dissolve if they come too close.

His released form, Arrogante, kicks these powers into overdrive, and he can wield an ax named Gran Caida and release the vicious Death Breath. Grimmjow is a tough guy, but not even he can match the power of death itself.

9Weaker Than Him: Shuhei Hisagi

Shuhei Hisagi is the Lieutenant of Squad 9, and the editor of the Seireitei Bulletin. He takes himself and his duties rather seriously, and for good reason. His shikai, Kazeshini, is fast and erratic, and can slice enemies apart with its scythe-like blades.

However, Shuhei's power falls short of that of any Captain, and while he can take on a Fracción, he'd wither in the face of Grimmjow. His Kido spells can't match the sheer power of Grimmjow's Cero blasts, Gran Rey Cero or Desgarrón.

8Stronger: Kenpachi Zaraki

In all fairness, it might be that no one can outstrip Kenpachi's sheer strength. He was discovered many years ago as a boy, wielding a stolen zanpakuto, and he managed to inflict a wound on the fearsome Captain Yachiru Unohana (now Retsu Unohana).



Kenpachi's combat prowess is as straightforward as it is deadly: fight the strongest enemies around and crush them in the spirit of battle. He took down 5th Espada Nnoitora Gilga, and he also defeated the seemingly invincible Gremmy, who can manifest anything from his imagination. Grimmjow couldn't replicate those feats.

7Weaker: Renji Abarai

The Lieutenant of Squad 6, serving directly under Byakuya Kuchiki, Renji wields the zanpakuto named Zabimaru, which can elongate into many segments and writhe about the battlefield. In bankai mode, it can also fire ranged attacks from its mouth.



Renji is powerful, but his speed and strength fall short of Grimmjow's, and he can't push Ichigo nearly as hard as Grimmjow can. He relies on backup to take on the strongest foes, while Grimmjow can handle any fight alone.

6Stronger: Ulquiorra Cifer

Based on the Espada ranking system alone, it is clear that Ulquiorra outclasses Grimmjow in sheer combat power. But it's not just a number; Ulquiorra has proven more than once that he deserves to be ranked two spots above Grimmjow.

His speed and precision are incredible, and in his released form, Murciélago, his speed and power are overwhelming, even for Hollow-mask Ichigo. Finally, there's Ulquiorra's hidden Segunda Etapa, morphing him into a veritable demon on the battlefield. In that form, he killed Ichigo, a feat Grimmjow never accomplished.

5Weaker: Driscoll Berci

This hulking man is a Quincy, and in particular, he is Sternritter "O," for The Overkill. The more people whom he personally slays in combat, the stronger he becomes for a time. He can keep ramping his power up, possibly without limit.

But it takes time to reach that point, and Grimmjow achieves maximum power the moment he releases Pantera. He's quick and has fearsome ranged attacks, including Desgarrón and Gran Rey Cero. In most situations, Driscoll can't match that.

4Stronger: Soi Fon

Captain Soi Fon is a petite woman who packs a lot of power, and unlike Grimmjow, she won't cause any collateral damage. She commands Squad 2, the Soul Reaper unit that is full of assassins and other crafty agents.



Soi Fon was extensively trained by Yoruichi, meaning she has lightning-quick movements, martial arts skills and ninja-like abilities. Two stings with her shikai, Suzumebachi, will kill anyone, regardless of their defenses or strength. Not even Grimmjow can do that. And in case of emergencies, Soi Fon can unleash her wind-based Shunko form, combining Kido with martial arts — an invention of Yoruichi's.

3Weaker: Kensei Muguruma

Kensei Muguruma was once the Captain of Squad 9, until he suffered Hollowfication and became a Visored. Now he has had his position in Squad 9 restored, leading Shuhei and Mashiro Kuna in battle.

While Kensei is tough, he tends to underestimate his enemies and end up flat on his back. He sometimes hesitates to don his Hollow mask, and his bankai is distinctly underwhelming. He has lost some fights that Grimmjow definitely would have won.

2Stronger: Äs Nödt

Sternritter "F" Äs Nödt is the master of fear on any battlefield. He has a rather intimidating appearance, and on top of that, his arrows (shaped like thorns) will inflict fear on any target, and can breach any defense. Nothing can block something intangible like fear.

This will freeze up his enemies, leaving them vulnerable to attack. His Vollständig form, Tatarforas, can inflict mind-splitting terror on anyone inside a dome covered with eyes, allowing him to finish off all his targets at leisure. Grimmjow doesn't stand a chance.

1Weaker: Isshin Kurosaki

Isshin Kurosaki is none other than Karin's and Yuzu's father, and he was once a Soul Reaper Captain named Isshin Shiba. He is a competent warrior with a shikai based in fire, and he defeated the Hollow known as White.

But none of Isshin's abilities can surpass Grimmjow's. His lithe agility, extreme strength, ranged attacks and Sonído outclass everything in Isshin's arsenal, so it was wise of Isshin to entrust his son with the most important battles.
