The official website for the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film revealed the film's main visual on Friday. The tagline on the visual reads "It's just is a game, or so I thought."

The film will screen in United States theaters for a one-night event on March 9. Tickets to the film are on sale now. Prior to the wide release, Aniplex of America will host a premiere event in Hollywood, California on March 1.

The film will open in Japan on February 18 in 150 theaters.

Original light novel author Reki Kawahara is writing the new story for the film. Tomohiko Ito is returning from the two TV anime series and the anime special to direct the film at A-1 Pictures. Shingo Adachi is also returning from the TV anime to design the characters based on abec's original character designs, and Yuki Kajiura is returning to score the music. Kanda is also performing insert songs for the film.

I love that poster. I hate that the US screening is the sub, why would they do that when a dub is almost definitely coming soon? This is one of my two most anticipated anime releases this year (second only to Fairy Tail Movie 2: Dragon Cry) so hopefully it delivers. I of course won't be watching until the dub comes out. I wonder if they'll announce season 3 at the end of the movie. I think there's a decent chance, but only if its coming this year otherwise it would be pointless to announce that early.

Is there even a definite for a 3rd season? From my understanding (in the history of most anime) Once an official movie is released, it usually means the death of an anime. SAO has a lot of popularity for sure, but I don't know how much longer they can really drag out the idea of people dying within a video game. GGO was the perfect example of this. Leftover remnants of the originals going around and actually killing the people in RL instead of the game. I'm not too sure how long they can keep this up. Personally I'd be happy if they finally tied the knots that they need to tie (I.e. Kirito and Asuna finally getting married) and ending it. With as much death as they have seen and as many bad guys that they have had to fight, it would be a fitting end to the series. I don't want SAO turning out to be like DragonBall and dragging on till it's too stupid to watch.

Well as much as I love the series (It was also my first anime - but a majority of you know that already), it can only be good as much as the effort the studio animating it takes from the LNs/Manga. If they just do fillers, I might be satisfied for a bit only to begin to get irritated since there would be no plot being made. All I can hope for is that they actually do a decent Season 3, after the 1st half of Season 1 it's kind of gone a bit down hill. But this is just my rant of an opinion.

Season 3 isn't confirmed but it's definitely happening. SAO is still one of the most popular anime and I don't expect it to end any time within the next couple years.

I expect Ordinal Scale to mostly focus on action and not romance unfortunately. Kirito and Asuna aren't gonna get married in a movie, in my opinion.

I heard from someone who reads the manga that the arc right after Mother's Rosario is insane in a good way.

I don't think you have to worry about SAO dragging on to long. Even after the next season it will be closer in length to FMA: Brotherhood than Dragon Ball.

I agree that GGO was poorly done and I hope season 3 is nothing like that, and avoids the trap of thinking they need one "dying in the game" arc per season. I honestly don't care much about the virtual aspect of SAO anymore and mostly I just want to see Asuna and Kirito's romance in the real world, especially now that Yui can be with them in a way.

Movie's don't always signal death of a series. You can't compare SAO to most animes because it trounces them in popularity. There are few anime that rival SAO in popularity and one of them, Fairy Tail, had a movie a few years ago and then had more than a hundred episodes released after that, is now having another movie, and will definitely continue after that as well.

I'm very much confident SAO will continue. Like I said they may even announce SAO season 3 at the end of Ordinal Scale but if its not coming out til next year then they might as well wait.

I personally think Mother's Rosario was the best arc and highlight of the series. The first half of season 1 was amazing too. I actually enjoyed the second half of season 1 as well although it wasn't as good as the first half. Gun Gale Online is the only part I really didn't like, and that was mostly because Asuna wasn't on for an entire arc. As good as (the last half of) season 2 was it almost completely lacked the romance of season 1. I was okay with that because it had possibly the best friendship in anime (Asuna and Yuuki) so I didn't mind the lack of romance as much. Season 3 though, its about time Asuna and Kirito at least start kissing and all that in real life. SAO hasn't ever really had filler episodes that I can think of so I wouldn't worry about that at this point.

I still enjoyed it none-the-less. I just wish they would've had more to add to the very first half instead of splitting it into arcs. If they did it right, they could've had 4 seasons by now.

From what I've heard, they revealed part 3 at the end of the first showing (Japanese Non-Subbed) with a teaser saying, (Quote) "Sword Art Online Will Return..."
Also, If you play Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag (for mobile devices) They have characters from Ordinal scale already, and characters from the Light novels and Manga... But, the thing is, it follows the ANIME, and they don't add characters to it that aren't in the anime yet... So, that means that Season 3 is announced officially without a date... I guess... the one character that stood out to me was Alice... So, there you go. Season 3.
Also, from what I've heard, Season 3 is actually going to be what the guy said earlier... What's their name?
Oh, KnowMeFrom. It's most likely going to be the arc after Mother's Rosario from the info I've gathered up. Like adding Alice, Rain, Seven, and other characters from that arc in the Light Novel and Manga series into the phone app that only follows the anime... Also, they released the characters from ordinal scale into the game before they released Ordinal Scale: The Movie for the first time... SO, It's safe to assume that that game spoils the releases of Movies and Episodes so you'll know which novel they will refer to next in the series...
Oh, also, it's entirely free. You should get it. It's awesome. I get to fight using FREAKING YUI!
...Oh, and also Klein, but nobody cares about him.
Also, look forward to the release of SAO: Fatal Bullet for Xbox, PS4, and PC in 2018! it's the first game to cover GGO, I'm pretty sure! (Correct me if I'm wrong...)
...And, If you're bored, you can always watch the shorts, Sword Art Offline!

Hope someone actually reads it!... Maybe you're excited for season 3, too... I'm waiting for the dub... Also, can anyone tell me where I can see Ordinal Scale? I've watched it in Japanese... (Well, About 25 minutes of it, anyways... I can kinda understand it...) But I wanna watch the full thing dubbed, not a small part of it in a whole different language! I mean, my name might be Korin, but I'm more Scottish and American than Japanese (cause I've obviously made it clear I'm 0% Japanese and literally 1% Scottish), So I'd rather be able to watch all of it while understanding it instead of only being able to read about 2 words that flash up on the screen before giving up. Oh, also, that's my Japanese name... My real name is (Censored).

You thought I'd give you my name? You're Crazy!

    Welp, Hope this helped!

    Have a great day!

    -(Censored)
