There's been a problem with the images of trophies, signatures, and even images we post; they show up as an error image. Like this: (An Image Thumbnail with an X on it)
I noticed it wasn't just happening to me as @SkeLo can vouch for it too. Also, I tried it on 2 separate browsers, Google Chrome (My Usual Browser), and Internet Explorer. I don't know if I should posting it here as it sort of seems like a minor issue but I didn't really notice it happening until after the unexpected server transfer that happened back on Wednesday.

It's happened to me too. I tried to redo my signature, but I get the same result. I also checked out the other two browsers I have and get the same thing.

Mind giving some clarification @Kiri I'm not very familiar with how images are setup here because of us having https.

Ive had this issue before, all I did was , go back to the image, where the link was and simply re-saved and then it worked. That worked for me
    so
    - edit your post / sig image, copy the URL , delete the current URL then paste back in the copied URL

Hope this helps as this helped me

Hmm, I'll try that out next time I have the issue; as for Signature; it's actually not my Signature that's missing, it just looks like others' are missing.

The forums is set to use HTTPS. As a result, non-secure content can't be displayed without some kind of work-around. The forum software proxies images and does this by taking the image, saving a cached version on the site's server (lasts 1 to 3 days before being re-fetched), and displays that. A broken image is made when either the cached version gets removed, or if the source image is deleted and thus can't be fetched. If a signature is not displaying correctly, it's up to that member to re-upload or re-link their image. For images around the forum, such as trophies, those should be on the site's server as the proxy service only works in the message area (post and sigs) and if those are broken, just means something got moved, renamed, not linked properly, or was stored on an off-site location and not moved to where it should be.

I've been just uploading small pics directly to the site due to this, since it embarrasses me to look back and see that I posted a missing image icon.

Well, with the exception of the St Patrick's Day 2016 badge, everything else works, so I'm good.

These image errors are a result of the images no longer existing at their linked location anymore, either they were moved, renamed, or deleted from the host.

The images are still there. I even saved the images and uploaded them to my Puush account. This problem also occurs with images uploaded to my imgur account.

Send me the links and I'll do an image proxy check.

If the Image Proxy can't establish a connection, then for all intents and purposes, the image doesn't exist and can't be fetched. Puu.sh has probably done something that blocks the image proxy from fetching the file and caching it, since this wasn't an issue before when some of Crazy's trophy images were hosted on a puu.sh server at one point before broken images started showing up.

As for the CDN (Content Delivery Network) links, they give me this error in the image proxy test:
Presumably, the links are too long so the image proxy writes them off as invalid files or the CDN writes the files in a way that doesn't make sense to the image proxy and thus is considered an invalid file.

GIF on Imgur that are Gif Video formatted won't work. The Image Proxy doesn't support Gif Videos and that's what it's receiving when it tries to connect. Turning the link into "gif" instead of "gifv" won't work either, because it just turns the address into "gifv"
^ And that doesn't help either.

Gif Video formatted images on Imgur are a result of this "All GIFs over 2MB will be converted to GIFV on upload. You can upload GIFs up to 200MB." (found here)

I understand, sorry for being a bit slow and thank you for being so patient.

Could you suggest what I should use for future posts and any specification parameters for images?

    Thanks. :)

No problem. I'm learning more about the Proxy Image as these errors pop up and explore the reasons why.

I doubt that 2 MB images are actually too big, so I doubt XenForo developers have ever encountered the problem with Imgur converting 2+MB GIF files into an unsupported file format, so they didn't think about making an error message stating it was a format problem. Most images that are within Signature specs in our community standards shouldn't be more than 1 to 2 MB. I found an animated GIF that 360 wide by 222 high that was less than 1 MB, one that was 300 wide by 225 high that was 1.53 MB. So quality and size can effect Imgur's conversion script.

I would recommend exploring image hosts and finding ones that won't convert GIF images that are 2MB or more and seeing if that helps for your GIF posting needs, or try linking to original GIF images that aren't hosted on Imgur (especially if a link changes the file from gif to gifv because of the byte size of a GIF). For JPEG and PNG, Imgur has been quite reliable. Other than the Gif problem that you stumbled on, Imgur hasn't given us any image error problems. For animated references, YouTube is always supported and always works (unless someone/YouTube deletes the video or region blocks viewers), so you can still use YouTube if the content exists. I'll take a deeper look into the Image Proxy and see what the real byte size limit is. People can post screenshots of their desktop without the Image Proxy showing a "broken image", so it's likely a file type problem.
