    Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

This is a thread dedicated to discussing whether the currently airing 2014 adaptation of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works is a great anime or masterpiece anime. Note that these are your only options; those of dissenting opinions will be summarily executed.

It should go without saying that many spoilers will be discussed in this thread, so you should leave immediately if you aren't caught up.

As of this posting the prologue episode 0 just finished airing, and if you couldn't already tell, I fracking loved it. The banter between Rin and Archer was glorious, the Lancer and Archer battle was epic, and my waifu got a nice appearance at the end to set us up for a solid cliffhanger and segue into the main series. I feel this is definitely how you do prologue.

Share your thoughts on Fate/stay night: UBW.

You did the worst homophone mistake. The WORST. You mean segue. You just told me that the episode gave you a motorized scooter into the main series.
This is Shogun, grammar nazi extraordinaire signing off.

Many apologies sir. My grammar is usually flawless; I don't know how I made such a grievous miscalculation. Post corrected.

So....as anyone might remember I am a HUGE fan of the original Fate/Stay Night series and visual novel. Also, I just watched episode 3/4 however you are counting it. And I am LOVING IT.

I am kind of mixed on adding new fight scenes, but honestly, It works out great. Illia doesnt really show much power in the VN, so I am suprised they decided to give her some power this time....for now

About episode 0.....freaking WOW. I assume you have read the VN right @minisets? I loved that they pointed out that Archer makes good tea which (SPOILERS!!! she points out...Ill assume here in an episode or 2, she will point out how good Shirou's tea is too) Little things like that makes me really happy.

Concerning the ending. Where they ended it was FANTASTIC. Where they ended it was the split point for Fate route or UBW route, which was just a fantastic note.

I for one am all for additional fight scenes especially since F/Z was previously so damn light on them. Besides, Illya and Rin going at it was badass. And yeah I've read the entire UBW route of the VN.

Needless to say, the hype is REEEAAALLLL. Dat Archer smirk. Dat nuke arrow. Dat breakdancing Berserker. Episode 3 was just insane. I was like HNNNGGHH.

Dude, yes, that archer smirk make my fangirl come out!! I was confused for a good part because that final shot was in a graveyard, and they ended up in the forest and some shit...lucky they made the way back.

Saber using Excalibur like that was bad ass, but I was concerned with her using it so early in the show. I guess none of the cast really noticed it since she quickly hid it.

Was bersker really that agile before? I liked his overwhelming strength basicly manhandling saber like that. One of my favorite parts in the movie is where he grabbed her by the lag and tossed her like a wet noodle, but hey, that was more than made up for

They very well painted just how OP berserker is. Which makes me wonder, considering they are adding more to the shorter fight scenes, (this one was a whole episode!) How They will handle Goldilocks vs Berserker. They could just make him even more OP and just crush berserker like in the VN and movie, or he could just manhandle berserker like he did saber in this one.

Really impressed with it so far. I like the little changes they've made to the way the servants' battles play out, showcasing their superhuman abilities with greater emphasis, along with their particular strengths and weaknesses. Also pleased that they're allowing the masters to play with magic a bit more. Essentially they seem to be building on the changes from Zero. I particularly like the way Saber's expressions and vocalisations at the right moments tacitly point to her memories from the previous Grail War. Can't wait to see how this all plays out!

Also, hearing high school Rin's voice feels a bit strange, since I watched the dubbed versions of the original series and the UBW film. All around good fun!

    Hahah, I love it.

I was already used to her Japanese voice from reading the VN, but I did enjoy her English VA too. When the blu-rays come out it will be a good excuse for me to rewatch the series in English. Also the blu-ray release is supposedly going to have additional scenes that weren't in the TV airing. At any rate, I hope Aniplex doesn't mess up this dub and brings back Mela Lee as Rin and Liam O'Brien for Archer. Liam makes such a great Archer voice.

If the English dubbed version of this anime were released, I do hope Kate Higgins will act the voice of Saber again.

I really hope this too because she was always my favorite Saber, but I'm guessing that most likely won't happen. UBW has already been licensed by Aniplex, who previously did the dub for Fate/Zero. Since Fate/Zero already cast Kari Wahlgren as Saber last time, for consistency they will probably opt to bring her back. Thankfully Kari is at least a step up from Michelle Ruff's portrayal in the old UBW movie, but nonetheless she still doesn't quite beat Kate Higgins for me. There is a good chance Mela Lee will reprise her role as Tohsaka though, because they recast her as Tohsaka in Fate/Zero, and Liam O'Brien also played one of the masters in Fate/Zero, so they could bring him back to play as Archer in this too. I think as long as Aniplex can bring back the majority of the original Fate/stay night cast and at least keep Kari as Saber, I will be satisfied.

I am so glad you and me think so similarly Mini. Saber in the original was SOOOO much better than Michelle Ruff. And I agree, Kari did a good job, but not as good as Kate

People are going to regret voting Kamina for Garch by the time this is over. There truly is no one more GAR than the original GARcher himself.
