Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale Tops Amazing Anime Film Poll Of 2017

    Japanese anime news website Anime! Anime! posted the results of its "Most Amazing Film of 2017" reader poll on Tuesday. Anime! Anime! held the poll between December 27-29, and the poll had 559 respondents. The respondents were 62% men, 38% women. About 40% of the respondents were 19 or younger, and about 30% were in their 20s.

    Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale garnered 27.2% of the overall votes, and 35.4% of the male vote. The three Free! films landed the top three spots for the women voters, with Gekijōban Kuroko no Basuke Last Game and Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic ranking #4 and #5, respectively.

    I'm really surprised (though not complaining that SAO one of my all time fav anime got top spot); that 'Your Name' didn't even get a notable mention or on the list...

    Umm @SkeLo @Teknoman X there is a very simple explanation to that. Kimi no Na wa wasn't released in 2017. It was actually a 2016 release. You may be confused because of the American release or perhaps the release of the dub, maybe even the release of the DVD. But it was most definitely released in 2016 in Japan, the place that actually matters when releasing these movies.
    Thought I'd just clear that up.


    As for this list, it was obvious SAO would rank high as the Japanese still love that trash heap. Especially those younger men. Bloody teenagers. No Game no Life ranking high doesn't surprise me, but I actually saw that one in cinemas. It was a bit of fun.
    Fireworks was also different but definitely not the best movie released.

    Personally I'm still looking forward to watching the Godzilla movie, and considering how old that franchise is and the fact that this is the first anime godzilla I thought it'd do better than that.
