As you can see from my Beatles-laced thread title, I'm stuck in an anime rut and need some recommendations right quick. I just finished Uchouten Kazoku and need something fast paced and intelligent, but not something that you'd need a PhD to watch.

This whole thread confuses me. I know, you want anime but intelligent and faced paced? I haven't really seen an anime like that. The closest thing I can think of would be fast dialogue as seen in either the Monogatari franchise or The Tatami Galaxy. But neither would I recommend to just anyone [esp monogatari since I don't particularly like that franchise].

Intelligent shows are designed to make you think, so the info isn't too quickly revealed and the pace moves slower overall. Meanwhile fast paced shows being to mind action and shounen themes, but none really make you think about what it is you're watching.

I'm always willing to recommend an anime, so with that in mind try and narrow down what you're looking for in order for me to be a little more helpful. Or you could just try browsing my long list for random titles that jump out at you.
One last option could be tagging @VeritasOdiumParit, he tends to like some interesting and thought provoking anime.

Since I have looked at your MAL. I would recommend:
    Baccano!
    Bokurano
    Code Geass
    Death Note
    Durarara!!
    Elfen Lied
    Ergo Proxy
    Full Metal Alchemist
    Ghost in the Shell S.A.C.
    Higurashi
    Gundam 00
    Shiki
    Terra E

Sorry for the confusion, I tend to overthink things. What I mean is a 12-24 episode anime with very high production values and intelligence behind it's creation, but not something too deep. Preferably comedy or comedy drama but am open to other genres. Sorry if this answer also sounds ambiguous but i'm not good at being concise.

I've been thinking of watching Terra E for a while, do you recommend I watch the movie or the series first?

    How is shiki fast paced!?
It took far too many episodes just for the MC to understand that, yes, the cause is vampires.
episode one people died...episode two more people died...episode three more- you get the point I'm trying to make.
ARGH! I can barely put it into words it would take far too much time granted less than it would take for the doctor to release obvious bite marks on a person's neck but never the less I rest it here.
My apologies to the people who like Shiki, I didn't finish it, maybe I should have finished it before judging it but by episode 13 I was done waiting for something to reach or amuse me.

@jmriz yes, Terra E is very good.

@AngeloDaniele I really enjoyed Shiki. The ending was massively brutal. You need to finish watching all of it.

Ghost Hunt is probably what you're looking for.

Fast paced and intelligent, supernatural phenomenon do occur in that world, you'll be on the edge of your seat at times, 24-26 episodes, if I recall correctly.
@Supernatural-Knight might be able to make a better summary.

By the same author as shiki and wife of the author of Another.

    Edit:

    The genres are:
    Comedy, Horror, Mystery, Shoujo, Supernatural

Ghost Hunt sounds like a good possibility, I just wish I liked horror anime but for some reason I find it hard to stomach ( except for Monster and Parasyte)

It starts slowly, suspence and horror-wise.
There's only one arc that's very disturbing and it's near the end (and you're already more than hooked by that point).

Then it's def for me, cause I love Alfred Hitchcock and the Twilight Zone (1960's original series)
By the way, if you have seen it, what is your opinion of The Twelve Kingdoms, written by same author as Ghost Hunt?

Let me know if you like it.
Also, it used to be on Netflix Canada, it might still be there in the states.

I haven't seen or read it, I saw Shiki and it was really good.
