Fallout 4 Was easily the most anticipated game of the year, I went to the midnight launch, Put it in my PS4 and played all the way till 4 AM. I was excited like a child opening a Nintendo 64 In the nineties. It was an early Christmas gift that I purchased for myself. that being said I reminded myself it was a Bethesda title and lowered my expectations. Here is my review.

    Gameplay
There is no doubt about it, It is the same old fallout we all came to know and love when Bethesda got their hands on it. Fallout 3 was a great game for it's game play, It's side quest were memorable if not the best part of the game and it felt unique from TES series. Though it was an open world RPG it was also a Post Apocalyptic survival RPG. Therefore ammo was scarce, Weapons got damaged, as did the armor; Creating a unique micromanagement system in video games that I personally enjoyed. Now fallout 4 Said goodbye to some of it's survival elements such as weapon and armor damage which is understandable most players dont want to deal with the micromanagement aspect or consistent looting that was required to make your character the best of the best. Fallout 4 Focused more on it's Unique gun creation system and Minecraft esque settlement system. Though fun it seemed a little uninspired as previous fallout's I wanted more survival elements even if it was only on a normal difficulty. However it just wasn't provided. Another thing I didn't like was the removal of the Faction system and Karma system. It made my decisions feel like they had less of an impact. In earlier iterations if you were a good guy you Generally got rewarded with purified water or a small amount of caps. In Fallout 4 There is no such thing no one will hate you or love you, Your decisions are extremely black and white, and a lot of role playing elements were removed with the voiced protagonist. But that is only my honest opinion.

    Story
Without any spoilers (For those who have no idea how the game starts) I didn't feel compelled to really take revenge from the beginning of the game or to really hunt down anyone. The biggest thing I can say is the context to my son is very limited with almost no character development other than Shaun being my son. Afterwards you're sent into my hometown of Boston to search for the remainder of your old home in sanctuary hills, only to see It is now a nuclear wasteland. Fast forward and you meet Factions, Yes you can side with them, but none of them hate you, however the 2 main factions of the game are the infamous or beloved Brotherhood of Steel and The Institute. Without much being known of the institute other than they abduct people. They're not very developed until you get to their point in the game. Though it is extremely well told, And I will not lie, I did get absorbed into some of the questlines of the game and enjoyed the company of some of the followers such as Hancock (he gives me chems. he is my boy.) Hancock gives you a quest to go to Pickmans gallery, and though it is a darker sidequest it is really interesting. The story of this game really shines during sidequest and important main questlines. I would say its overall a solid story if you're into that kind of thing, It is grindy however but the stories are mostly unique, fun, and creative.

    Soundtrack
It would absolutely be a lie if I were to say that the soundtrack to this game wasn't enjoyable at the least. It is very immersive, Especially if you're into classical music or showtunes. There were 4 Unique songs made for the game in the bar in goodneighbor, The character Mongolia sings each of them and they fit the games atmosphere very well, If you're not into the whole entire radio thing. Then the soundtrack for the normal game is just as immersive. Regardless putting on classical music and slaughtering groups of beast or even humans has never been more enjoyable then while listening to Dion's "Wanderer"

    Graphics
I'm not going to be nitpicky, The lighting is fine, The textures are fine, the depth of field is fine. Overall they did a good job at creating the atmosphere they were aiming for.

    Overall:

    8.5/10

Though this game had many good things going for it, Like all Bethesda products there will be inevitable gitches, Mosingor Plaza Breaking some peoples games actually. I didn't experience it luckily, However, I did get a problem with VATS where it would stick and jump on it over and over even after I cancelled with the circle button or even the the V.A.T.S button. a second glitch I luckily wasn't the receiver of; Hancock will be stuck in a dialogue cycle if you don't take him as a follower immediately after a certain quest of Bobbi No-nose. which is quite unfortunate, but overall it's a solid game and definitely a great purchase. it's a good game for any collection. Depending on how many people actually read this, I will review Witcher III : Wild hunt next.

This game sounds like it will be worth a try. I was afraid that it would be infested with glitches, just how Fallout 3 failed to remain stable on my computer. Thanks for the review.

No Problem. It's not a bad game by any stretch of the word, I just felt it was slightly underwhelming. Y'know? I was hoping it kept the greatness of New Vegas and just emphasized on its story and survival mechanics. I don't plan on trading in my copy as I am a fan of the DLC's that do come out for these games.

I've heard a lot of complaints of it being over-hyped. Like the game wasn't as good as Bethesda was making it out to be. From what I've heard from those who played, they mostly complained that everything that made it Fallout was removed. The whole RPG bit of it was skimpy at best. The SPECIAL stats didn't really make much of a difference; that you would eventually get a 10 for every stat. You wouldn't feel accomplished getting that rare perma-boost to one of the stats. There wasn't any skill tagging, where those skills would be boosted (like in previous Fallout games) at the start of the game. Some people were disappointed with the VATS change being slo-mo instead of full pause, but it wasn't too big of a deal for them because there was a good offset with the ability to generate crit hits. A lot of people did complain about the bugs though. I read about the change in how Radiation works, so now the effects more instantaneous instead of gradual stages. Debuffs with an HP per second loss that would increase every 10 rads, instead of stages of radiation poisoning, where the first effect was a loss in some of your SPECIAL stats, then a buff with an HP per second loss, and then the eventual death when you reached 1000 rads if you didn't use Rad Away to remove the rads, if you didn't die from an earlier stage of radiation poisoning that was draining your HP.

Coming into the Fallout series well after 1 - 3, and New Vegas were released and DLC's already released, I began to notice that Bethesda really sucks as a developer studio. Skyrim was even proof of that. Since I wasn't able to get my hands on the Fallout 4 Pip-boy Edition, I just figured I would wait for the crap game Bethesda would inevitably release to go on sale. I knew it wasn't going to be well polished, it was definitely going to have a game breaking glitch that will completely destroy your save or make it impossible to continue your progress, and it was pretty much going to disappoint that small glimmer of hope that Bethesda would actually make a well polished, epic game free from game breaking glitches that would kill any chance of progressing through the story. So I've been looking out for what Bethesda has done this time to make Fallout 4 not what it was cracked/hyped up to be, since they never fix the game breaking glitches and they always dump the responsibility onto the modders in the community to fix up their game with unofficial patches. Bethesda is extremely lazy compared to other studios. All they seem to do is half-ass a game, get it pushed out, and then jump onto the next project as soon as possible just so they can make a quick buck with their flagship titles. They don't really care about the game, so long as it makes them money. Had Fallout been stripped away from them and another developer given the opportunity to make, I bet the game would be far better than what Bethesda could have done. Gearbox would be a great company for Fallout to be developed by. They love ensuring the games work and they don't stop patching them even when the next project has been released; they listen to the community a lot more than Bethesda does. Even the Indie developers out there are making better games than Bethesda. Studio Wildcard, the developers of ARK: Survival Evolved, is making an awesome survival game. It's still in beta and it's more stable than any Bethesda developed game, and that's pretty sad. Beta games are supposed to be unstable and the public release 1.0 games are supposed to be the most stable (even with the inevitable missed bugs), but Bethesda doesn't seem to think like that at all.

@Vashnik You see, I share a similar view on them just letting The community, When it comes down to it 8.5 is extremely generous from me, I still enjoy the game, for what it is. But as an RPG Fan it just isn't what I wanted, Was I let down by yet another Bethesda game. Absolutely, The story isn't all that gripping but neither have the previous iterations save for New Vegas. It showed how much Obsidian doing the story for the game really paid off. In my own experience however, Fallout 4 Is the most put together game that they've made in a while because I cant run into a wall while holding a plate to get merchants chest. Unless I've missed something, the glitches I've experienced are very minimal. And I absolutely agree a different company purchasing fallout I honestly wouldn't mind CDPR doing it. We still know nothing about cyberpunk 2077 But it likely will be good. I'm not a fan of the borderlands series really, So that is why I wouldn't want gearbox taking control of it, but that's my own opinion.

Now here is my huge differing statement to you, Bethesda didn't hype the game up at all, they just announced the stuff that you would be able to do and then there was nothing other than the leak, Which Bethsoft was very upset about they were very aggressive towards people talking about the leak of F4. Most of the hype behind the game was the fans, which is why I avoided any social media before the game released or strayed from asking people if they were getting F4, the commercials for the game only came a week before the game came out. If i were to rate it as an action game with a plotline it would be easier but it is and always will be an RPG which is why it hurts to say it is an RPG with almost no RPG elements and is also a lackluster one at that. It's not so much the game is bad, It's just the game is not a good RPG

I might write my own review. But, nice work.

Absolutely loved Fallout 4. I was worried about a repeat of Skyrim or just a better Fallout 3. But my fears were unfounded.

    Pros:
The combat is the best it's ever been, I think the RP was just as good as ever, if not better, in a Bethesda Fallout, the story was fine and worked well and even allowed some agency similar to what NV allowed, loved the new power armor system, BoS is back to being proper Brotherhood, liked the new armor system (reminiscent of Morrowind), the map is much more densely packed, environments all feel unique and don't get old, the world feels lived-in and alive, VA is pretty good, crafting is purposeful and enjoyable, settlements are good fun, companions are interesting and useful, I could go on.

    Cons:
SPECIAL/Skill/Perk system needs refinement, level requirement should be removed for "ranks" of perks, settlements could stand to have more items for customization and could stand some refinement, some bugs need to be addressed.

Did it live up to the hype? Yes, it did. Bethesda really just ruined all expectations with Skyrim. I think they've learned from past mistakes and even took some lessons from Obsidian (dev of New Vegas) and delivered one of the best, if not the best, installments in the Fallout series.

I only used Gearbox as an example of a company that actually continues to fix their game instead of just jumping to the next project. Besides, I think they would actually stick to the source since Fallout does have one. Since Borderlands is it's own world created by Gearbox, they have a lot more room to go wild with the story. But all that's for a different topic. The point for me bringing Gearbox up was their dedication to keeping the game working and up-to-date, even after it's expected lifespan for a game. I know nothing of CDPR, so I can't really comment on whether or not I'd like the idea. But honestly, just about anyone out there could do better than Bethesda. Dare I say, EA would even be better at it than Bethesda?

The E3 video (here) had them showing it off and making it sound better than they could produce. Todd Howard's closing statement "You know our fans really are the greatest in the world, I know many of you are here tonight and I want to let you know just how important it is to us and we know we have a responsibility to do this game right and your love and support of Fallout have pushed us to make this our best work." (Starting at 32:14) Does that not imply that Fallout was supposed to be better than what was actually produced? Had they left the RPG element in the game, it probably could have lived up to their own claim of being their best work. Heck, hearing the video got me hyped more than the hearing the fans talk about it. That is why I think Bethesda oversold their ability to develop Fallout 4. I can't speak for other fans, but from my point of view that's what caused the game to be over-hyped.
